Waters Corporation Unveils Global Mass Spectrometry Headquarters in the UK's North West

Waters Corporation announced the official opening of its new, custom-built mass spectrometry headquarters in Wilmslow, UK. The facility has been designed and equipped to accelerate innovation in the field of mass spectrometry -- a sophisticated analytical laboratory technology that is entrenched in everyday lives. The technology enables scientists to analyze tiny quantities of substances and chemical components, often within complex mixtures, to find out what they are composed of at the molecular level. The technique applies to a spectrum of fields and has a huge impact on quality of life, safeguarding food and water supplies, protecting the environment and advancing healthcare. The new site is the latest in a network of specialist technology and engineering firms in the North West that continue to lead the field of mass spectrometry. The region's rich history started with John Dalton's Atomic Theory in the early 1800's, which laid the foundations for mass spectrometry to develop. The North West is now seen as a global research and development hub for the specialist technique, with innovations here making their way into laboratories around the world. The 2313m building includes customer demonstration laboratories, research and development capabilities and an expanded manufacturing capacity. The site was constructed to the 'Very Good' BREEAM rating, with sustainability elements built throughout, including rain water harvesting tanks, solar panels and heat recovery systems. What's more unusual is that the site also is home to a number of Pipistrelle bats. The bats were found during the initial site survey, and now enjoy a newly built bat house onsite as part of Waters commitment to sustaining the local area.

Waters Launches Progenesis QI Version 2.0 for Small Molecule Data Analysis at IMSC 2014

Waters Corporation introduced Progenesis(R) QI Version 2.0, the next generation of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) software for small molecule 'omics data analysis, at the International Mass Spectrometry Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. This complements the June introduction of Progenesis QI for proteomics Version 2.0 for large molecule 'omics data analysis. Both Progenesis QI and Progenesis QI for proteomics software take LC-MS data analysis to new levels of speed and sophistication, enabling users to rapidly quantify and identify the significantly changing small molecule, lipid compounds, and proteins in samples. The new features of Progenesis QI Version 2.0 include Pathway Mapping, which facilitates the process of placing discoveries into a biological context, extracting maximum value from 'omics data; Workflow Automation, which enables the software to move through multiple processing stages without user intervention, thus saving valuable time and allowing for overnight and weekend processing; Improved access to compound databases, increasing the chance of successful compound identification; and seamless integration with the extended statistics functionality in EZInfo 3.0, with two-way dataflow to allow for flexible data mining through a single, menu-driven command. Progenesis QI Version 2.0 provides an easy-to-learn, intuitive workflow that is flexible and based on how researchers function. It has a highly-visual interface. The expanded functionality has broad applications across a wide variety of areas including pharmaceutical, health sciences, food, environmental and chemical research.
