Westlake Chemical Corporation manufactures and markets basic chemicals, vinyls, polymers, and fabricated building products. It operates through two segments, Olefins and Vinyls. The Olefins segment offers ethylene, polyethylene, styrene monomer, and various ethylene co-products, such as chemical grade propylene, crude butadiene, pyrolysis gasoline, and hydrogen. The Vinyls segment provides polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl chloride monomer, ethylene dichloride, chlorine, caustic soda, and ethylene. This segment also manufactures and sells building products fabricated from PVC, including pipes, fittings, profiles, foundation building products, fence and deck, and window and door components. The company’s products are used in various applications, such as consumer and industrial markets comprising flexible and rigid packaging, automotive products, coatings, and residential and commercial construction, as well as in other durable and non-durable goods. Westlake Chemical Corporation also offers its products for chemical processors, plastics fabricators, construction contractors, municipalities, and supply warehouses primarily in North America. Westlake Chemical Corporation was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Westlake Chemical to Expand Ethylene Capacity in Lake Charles, LA

Westlake Chemical Corporation announced that it will expand its ethylene capacity and make other capital improvements in Lake Charles, LA with an investment in excess of $330 million. This expansion is expected to be completed in late 2015 or early 2016 and will increase ethane-based ethylene capacity by approximately 250 million pounds annually. In addition to the 480 employee and 115 core contractor jobs that will be retained at the site, Westlake will add an additional 25 new direct jobs. This expansion is expected to create an estimated 1,000 construction jobs at peak activity.

Dow Reportedly Mulls To Sell Its Epoxy And Chlorine Businesses

The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:DOW) has kicked off a process to sell its epoxy and chlorine businesses, hoping to find a single buyer for them in what is set to be a multibillion-dollar deal, according to people familiar with the matter. Dow has hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Barclays Plc to manage the process, the people said this week, adding that calls to potential buyers began this week. Logical buyers might include companies in the sector such as Axiall Corporation (NYSE:AXLL), Westlake Chemical Corp. (NYSE:WLK) and Apollo Global Management, LLC (NYSE:APO), the people said. Representatives for Axiall and Westlake did not respond to requests for comment, while Apollo declined to comment.

Westlake Chemical Corp. Plans for Expansion in the Lake Charles Facility

Westlake Chemical Corp. announced that the company planning for another expansion in the Lake Charles facility. The company will finish around end of 2015, early 2016, which would add another 250 million pounds capacity to ethylene business. And when finished, it will be fully integrated in ethylene in North American needs. These important integration projects will continue to propel EBITDA growth.
