Xenith Bankshares, Inc. operates as the bank holding company for Xenith Bank that provides commercial banking products and services to middle market and small businesses, local real estate developers and investors, private banking clients, and retail banking clients in Virginia. The company offers various deposit products, such as commercial and consumer checking accounts, non-interest-bearing demand accounts, money market accounts, savings accounts, and time deposits. It also provides secured and unsecured commercial and industrial loans; commercial real estate loans, including construction and land development loans; residential real estate loans; and consumer loans. In addition, it offers checking, savings, and treasury products, including remote deposit capture, automated clearing house transactions, debit cards, automated teller machine access, and Internet banking and bill pay service. As of September 30, 2012, the company operated six full-service branches, which included one branch in Tysons Corner, two branches in Richmond, and three branches in Suffolk of Virginia. The company is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia.

Xenith Bankshares, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013. For the quarter, the company reported net interest income of $5.2 million compared to $5.1 million a year ago. Income before income tax was $0.7 million compared to $0.3 million a year ago. Net income available to common shareholders was $0.4 million or $0.04 per basic and diluted common share compared to $0.3 million or $0.03 per basic and diluted common share a year ago. Return on average assets was 0.29% against 1.42% a year ago. Return on average common equity was 2.10% against 9.89% a year ago. Book value per common share was $7.57 against $6.91 a year ago. Tangible book value per common share was $6.05 against $5.35 a year ago. Asset quality improved with net charge-offs as a percentage of average loans held for investment of 0.04% for first quarter 2013, compared to 0.13% for first quarter 2012.
