The York Water Company is engaged in impounding, purifying, and distributing drinking water. It operates two wastewater collection and treatment systems; and has two reservoirs comprising Lake Williams and Lake Redman, which together hold up to approximately 2.2 billion gallons of water. The company also has a 15-mile pipeline from the Susquehanna River to Lake Redman, which provides access to an additional supply of 12.0 million gallons of untreated water per day; and owns two wells providing approximately 100,000 gallons per day to supply water to its customers in Carroll Valley, Adams County. As of December 31, 2013, it served 63,774 customers in 39 municipalities within York County and 8 municipalities within Adams County in Pennsylvania. The company serves various customers in fixtures and furniture, electrical machinery, food products, paper, ordnance units, textile products, air conditioning systems, laundry detergent, barbells, and motorcycles industries. The York Water Company was founded in 1816 and is based in York, Pennsylvania.

The York Water Company reported earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported operating revenues of $10,571,000 increased $502,000 from $10,069,000, and net income of $2,111,000 decreased $28,000 compared to $2,139,000 in the first quarter of 2013. Higher revenues were due to an increase in rates effective February 28, 2014, higher per capita consumption and growth in both the water and wastewater customer bases. Earnings per share decreased $0.01 from $0.17 to $0.16 in the first quarter of 2014. During the first three months of 2014, the company invested $2.0 million in construction expenditures for upgrades to water treatment facilities, to replace a portion of its infrastructure and other routine items. The company estimated it will invest an additional $10.5 million in 2014, excluding acquisitions, for expansion and improvements to its pipes, filtration system, facilities, and dams to ensure a safe, adequate, and reliable supply of drinking water and to maintain proper handling and disposal of wastewater for the company's growing customer base.

The York Water Company Announces Retirement of John L. Finlayson from Board of Directors

On March 14, 2014, John L. Finlayson retired from the Board of Directors of The York Water Company pursuant to the company's retirement policy. Mr. Finlayson had been a director of the company for over 20 years, starting in September 1993. Mr. Finlayson served as Chairman of the Audit Committee from 1994 to 2013, as well as serving as a member of the Compensation, Nomination and Corporate Governance and Executive Committees from time to time during his tenure. Mr. Finlayson will be designated as a Director Emeritus.
