Zurich Insurance reported group earnings results for the second quarter and first half ended June 2014. For the quarter, the company reported 6% increase in its profit. The company reported profits because its general insurance unit benefited from lower weather-related losses. The company’s net profit had jumped 14% during the first half of the year, boosted by restructuring. The group posted a net profit of $2.1 billion for the January-June period. The company's operating profit meanwhile rose to $2.6 billion during the first half of the year, a 15% increase from the outcome at the same time last year.

Zurich Insurance Group has appointed Patrick Cohen as head of customer and distribution for its general insurance. In this position, Mr. Cohen will continue to push profitable growth and accelerate customer focus as per Zurich's 2014-16 strategy. He will drive sales and customer strategy for GI including distribution channels and broker management. Before joining Zurich, he held senior commercial and marketing roles with GE Capital, McKinsey and PepsiCo.
