VMware, Inc. provides virtualization infrastructure solutions utilized by organizations to help transform the way they build, deliver, and consume information technology (IT) resources. Products and Technology The company develops and markets its product and service offerings within three major product groups, including Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC); End-User Computing; and Hybrid Cloud Computing. The company works with approximately 1,200 technology partners, including leading server, microprocessor, storage, networking, software, and security vendors. SDDC The company’s SDDC architecture consists of four main product categories, such as Compute, Storage and Availability, Network and Security, and Management and Automation. Compute: VMware vSphere is the company’s primary data center platform and provides the fundamental compute layer for VMware environments. Users deploy the VMware vSphere hypervisor when they purchase VMware vSphere or suite versions that include vSphere, such as vCloud suites. Storage and Availability: The company provides various storage and availability products to offer holistic data storage and protection options to various applications running on the vSphere platform. Major technologies in this area include vSAN, clusters server disks to create radically simple shared storage designed for virtual machines; vSphere Replication, provides way to manage replication; and vCenter Site Recovery Manager, utilizes vSphere and vSphere Replication to protect applications against site failures and to streamline planned migrations. Network and Security: Network virtualization abstracts physical networks and simplifies the provisioning and consumption of networking resources. In addition, security services are built in, do not require purpose-built hardware, and could scale with the network. The company’s key product in this area is VMware NSX, launched in 2013. Its network virtualization product offerings include VMware NSX. Management and Automation: The company’s management and automation products move beyond core infrastructure to manage and automate overarching IT processes involved in provisioning IT services and resources to users from initial infrastructure deployment to retirement. These IT processes manage virtualized and non-virtualized infrastructure resources, and private and public cloud infrastructures, including hybrid cloud services. The products in the management and automation product portfolio include vCenter Operations Management, which provides performance, capacity and configuration management for virtual or physical infrastructure; vCloud Automation Center, which enables customers to deploy and provision cloud services; and IT Business Management Suite, which provides transparency and control over the costs and quality of IT services. The company’s SDDC offerings are available separately or might be acquired in a single solution. The vCloud Suite is an integrated solution for building and managing a complete cloud infrastructure optimized for use with the VMware vSphere platform. vCloud Suite is the company’s first set of products designed to fulfill the promise of the software-defined data center by pooling hardware and running compute, networking and management functions in the data center as software-defined services. vCloud Suite offerings include combinations of the following components: vSphere Enterprise Plus: The company’s virtualization platform enabling server virtualization with its various feature set designed for policy-based automation. vCloud Director: It enables self-service access to logical pools of compute, network and storage resources with policy-driven controls and service-level agreements. vCloud Connector: It extends management to the hybrid cloud. vCloud Networking and Security: It provides advanced networking and security for applications and the perimeter of virtual datacenters, end-user computing and cloud environments. VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager: It provides automated disaster recovery for virtualized environments. vCenter Operations Management: It provides performance, capacity and configuratio
