CalciTech Ltd. manufactures synthetic calcium carbonate (SCC). SCC is a white pigment and is used for paper filling and coating, as well as in paint, polymers, food and pharmaceuticals. The company is seeking to establish its first full scale commercial merchant plant. It engages in sales activity within the paper, polymers, paints, food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries to seek commitment from potential customers to purchase SCC products from the first full scale commercial plants. The company has three SCC products targeting the paper industry, including CalciLS, CalciSG, and CalciRG. All three are directed at the high value end of the paper pigment market. CalciLS Products: CalciLS is designed to maximize light scattering. CalciLS is targeted to partially replace and extend Titanium Dioxide TiO2, Aluminium TriHydrate ATH and Precipitated Silica PS and substitute calcined clay in fine paper applications and Super Calendered A+ CalciLS is also suitable for pigmentation applications. CalciSG Products: CalciSG is designed to provide a super gloss coating for premium grade printing and writing papers, including both ultra light weight coated and light weight coated and coated folding boxboard. CalciRG Products: The company offers CalciRG for the paper coatings market. CalciRG is a performance-enhancing additive targeted at the rotogravure market. For the launch of this product, the company worked closely with its customers to identify specific needs. CalciRG was designed and developed in collaboration with these customers, and thoroughly tested in commercial trials, showing the properties of its SCC based products. The company offers CalciSP that is targeted at the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. It offers CalciRC that is targeted at polymer applications, such as plastics, sealants, rubber and adhesives. Patents and other Intellectual Properties The company applied to patent its process of transforming waste lime into SCC in 1998. An international application was filed under the European Patent Cooperation Treaty in December of 1999 to expand the protection of the company’s intellectual property on an international level. The company has an application for a new patent at the UK Patent Office. This new patent would protect the processes to be used by it to produce SCC with exceptional features. The company has patent at the United Kingdom Patent Office for a technology that enables paper producers to recycle all the minerals used in paper, in particular paper sludge ash. History The company was founded in 1978. It was incorporated in 1978 in British Colombia, Canada. The company was formerly known as Kemgas Ltd. and changed its name to CalciTech Ltd. in 2000.
