Dominion Diamond Corporation engages in the mining and marketing of rough diamonds. As of January 31, 2013, the company’s most significant asset is an ownership interest in the Diavik group of mineral claims. The Diavik Joint Venture (the Joint Venture) is an unincorporated joint arrangement between Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. (DDMI– 60%) and Dominion Diamond Diavik Limited Partnership (DDDLP – 40%), where DDDLP owns an undivided 40% interest in the assets, liabilities and expenses. Mineral Properties Diavik Diamond Mine The Diavik mineral claims and mining leases are contained within seven claim blocks. The Diavik Diamond Mine is located approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. The mine site is situated on a 17 square kilometers island in Lac de Gras. The Joint Venture consists of the Diavik Diamond Mine and its surrounding exploration properties. A total of 284 mining leases and 27 mineral claims are held in the joint venture which represents a land package of approximately 677,307 acres. The Ekati Diamond Mine The company acquired certain interests in the Ekati Diamond Mine in 2013. The Ekati Diamond Mine property consists of the Core Zone, which includes the operating mine and other permitted kimberlite pipes, as well as the Buffer Zone, an adjacent area hosting kimberlite pipes having both development and exploration potential. The company has an 80% interest in the Core Zone, which encompasses 176 mining leases, totaling 173,024 hectares, and hosts the Koala, Koala North, Misery, Pigeon, and Fox kimberlites; and the Buffer Zone contains 106 mining leases covering 89,151.6 hectares, and hosts the Jay and Lynx kimberlites. The Ekati Diamond Mine is located near Lac de Gras, approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Yellowknife and 200 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Significant Events In July 2014, Dominion Diamond Corporation announced that it has entered into an agreement with C. Fipke Holdings Ltd. to acquire FipkeCo's 10% participating interests in the Ekati Diamond Mine at a price equivalent to the price paid to BHP Billiton in 2013 for its interests.
