Entergy Corporation, an integrated energy company, engages in electric power production and retail electric distribution operations. The company owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of aggregate electric generating capacity, including approximately 10,000 megawatts of nuclear-fueled capacity. It delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Segments The company operates in two segments, Utility and Entergy Wholesale Commodities. Utility The Utility segment engages in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electric power; and operates a small natural gas distribution business. The Utility business segment includes six wholly-owned retail electric utility subsidiaries: Entergy Arkansas, Inc. (Entergy Arkansas), Entergy Gulf States Louisiana L.L.C. (Entergy Gulf States Louisiana), Entergy Louisiana, LLC (Entergy Louisiana), Entergy Mississippi, Inc. (Entergy Mississippi), Entergy New Orleans, Inc. (Entergy New Orleans), and Entergy Texas, Inc. (Entergy Texas). These companies generate, transmit, distribute, and sell electric power to retail and wholesale customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Entergy Gulf States Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans also provide natural gas utility services to customers in and around Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and New Orleans, Louisiana, respectively. Also included in the Utility is System Energy Resources, Inc. (System Energy), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company that owns or leases 90% of Unit No. 1 of Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (Grand Gulf). System Energy sells its power and capacity from Grand Gulf at wholesale to Entergy Arkansas, Entergy Louisiana, Entergy Mississippi, and Entergy New Orleans. The six retail utility subsidiaries are each regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and by state utility commissions, or, in the case of Entergy New Orleans, the City Council (Council of the City of New Orleans, Louisiana). Entergy Wholesale Commodities The Entergy Wholesale Commodities segment engages in the ownership and operation of six nuclear power plants located in the northern United States and the sale of the electric power produced by those plants to wholesale customers. This business also provides operations and management services, including decommissioning services to other nuclear power plant owners. Entergy Wholesale Commodities also includes the ownership of, or participation in joint ventures that own, non-nuclear power plants and the sale to wholesale customers of the electric power produced by these plants. Entergy Nuclear Power Marketing, LLC (ENPM) was formed to centralize the power marketing function for Entergy Wholesale Commodities nuclear plants. ENPM functions include origination of new energy and capacity transactions, generation scheduling, contract management (including billing and settlements), and market and credit risk mitigation. Entergy Nuclear, Inc. pursues service agreements with other nuclear power plant owners. Services provided by either Entergy Nuclear, Inc. or other Entergy Wholesale Commodities subsidiaries include engineering, operations and maintenance, fuel procurement, management and supervision, technical support and training, administrative support, and other managerial or technical services required to operate, maintain, and decommission nuclear electric power facilities. Entergy Nuclear, Inc. also offers operating license renewal and life extension services to nuclear power plant owners. TLG Services, a subsidiary of Entergy Nuclear Inc., offers decommissioning, engineering, and related services to nuclear power plant owners. History Entergy Corporation was founded in 1989.
