Fifth Third Bancorp operates as a diversified financial services company. As of December 31, 2013, the company operated 17 affiliates with 1,320 full-service banking centers, including 104 Bank Mart locations open seven days a week inside select grocery stores, and 2,586 ATMs in 12 states throughout the Midwestern and Southeastern regions of the U.S. Segments The company operates in four segments: Commercial Banking, Branch Banking, Consumer Lending and Investment Advisors. It also has a 25% interest in Vantiv Holding, LLC. Commercial Banking The Commercial Banking segment offers credit intermediation, cash management and financial services to large and middle-market businesses and government and professional customers. In addition to the traditional lending and depository offerings, the company’s products and services include global cash management, foreign exchange and international trade finance, derivatives and capital markets services, asset-based lending, real estate finance, public finance, commercial leasing and syndicated finance. Branch Banking The Branch Banking segment provides a range of deposit and loan and lease products to individuals and small businesses through full-service Banking Centers. Branch Banking offers depository and loan products, such as checking and savings accounts, home equity loans and lines of credit, credit cards, and loans for automobiles and other personal financing needs, as well as products designed to meet the specific needs of small businesses, including cash management services. Consumer Lending The Consumer Lending segment includes the company’s mortgage, home equity, automobile and other indirect lending activities. Mortgage and home equity lending activities include the origination, retention and servicing of mortgage and home equity loans or lines of credit, sales and securitizations of those loans, pools of loans or lines of credit, and all associated hedging activities. Indirect lending activities include loans to consumers through mortgage brokers and automobile dealers. Investment Advisors The Investment Advisors segment provides a range of investment alternatives for individuals, companies and not-for-profit organizations. Investment Advisors is made up of four main businesses: Fifth Third Securities (FTS), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of the company; ClearArc Capital, Inc. (formerly FTAM), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of the company; Fifth Third Private Bank; and Fifth Third Institutional Services. FTS offers full service retail brokerage services to individual clients and broker dealer services to the institutional marketplace. ClearArc Capital, Inc. provides asset management services and previously advised the Bancorp’s proprietary family of mutual funds. Fifth Third Private Bank offers holistic strategies to affluent clients in wealth planning, investing, insurance and wealth protection. Fifth Third Institutional Services provides advisory services for institutional clients including states and municipalities. Loans As of December 31, 2013, the company’s loan portfolio included commercial and industrial loans; commercial mortgage loans; commercial construction loans; commercial leases; residential mortgage loans; home equity loans; automobile loans; credit card; and other consumer loans and leases. Investment Securities As of December 31, 2013, the company’s investment portfolio included securities of U.S. treasury and government agencies, and U.S. government sponsored agencies; obligations of states and political subdivisions; agency mortgage-backed securities; other bonds, notes, and debentures; and other securities. Deposits As of December 31, 2013, the company’s deposit products included demand, interest checking, savings, money market, foreign office, other time, certificates, and other deposits. Regulation The company and/or its banking subsidiary are subject to regulation and supervision primarily by the Federal Reserve Bank, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions and additionally by certain other functional regulators and self-regulatory organizations. The company is also subject to regulation by the SEC by virtue of its status as a public company and due to the nature of some of its businesses. The company's banking subsidiary is subject to regulation by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which insures the bank’s deposits as permitted by law. The company’s subsidiary, Fifth Third Bank, received a ‘Satisfactory’ Community Reinvestment Act rating in its recent Community Reinvestment Act examination. History Fifth Third Bancorp was founded in 1862.
