Segments Motorcycles and Related Products This segment designs, manufactures, and sells at wholesale street-legal Harley-Davidson motorcycles, as well as a line of motorcycle parts, accessories, general merchandise and related services. The company’s products are sold to retail customers through a network of independent dealers. It conducts business on a global basis, with sales in North America, Europe/the Middle East/Africa (EMEA), the Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. Motorcycles – The primary business of the Motorcycles segment is to design, manufacture, and sell at wholesale street-legal Harley-Davidson motorcycles, as well as a line of motorcycle parts, accessories, general merchandise and related services. Harley-Davidson motorcycles feature classic styling, innovative design, distinctive sound, and superior quality with the ability to customize. The company manufactures six platforms of motorcycles: Touring, Dyna, Softai, Sportster, V-Rod and Street. The first four of these motorcycle platforms are powered by air-cooled, or combination air-and liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engines with a 45-degree V configuration. The V-Rod and Street platforms are powered by liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engines with a 60-degree V configuration. Street platform motorcycles (the Harley-Davidson Street 500 and Street 750) are expected to be available for sale at retail in select markets beginning in the second quarter of 2014. The company's engines range in displacement from 494cc to 1802cc. The most significant other markets, based on the company's retail sales data, are Canada, Japan, Australia and Brazil. Parts & Accessories (P&A): P&A products consist of replacement parts (Genuine Motor Parts) and mechanical and cosmetic accessories (Genuine Motor Accessories). General Merchandise: General Merchandise products include MotorClothes apparel and riding gear. Licensing: The company offers a range of products for enthusiasts by licensing the name ‘Harley-Davidson’ and other trademarks. Its licensed products include T-shirts, vehicle accessories, jewelry, small leather goods, toys, footwear and various other products. Harley-Davidson Museum: The company operates the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 130,000 square foot museum campus houses the Harley-Davidson Museum and Archives, a restaurant, cafe, retail store and special event space. Other Services: The company also provides various services to its independent dealers, including motorcycle service and business management training programs and customized dealer software packages. Motorcycle rentals are available through many of the company’s independent dealers under its Authorized Rentals Program. International Sales: The company sells motorcycles and related products to independent dealers and distributors located outside of the United States. Trademarks: Trademarks are major to the company’s motorcycle business and licensing activities. The HARLEY-DAVIDSON trademark and the Bar and Shield trademark are recognizable to the public. Additionally, the company uses various other trademarks, trade names and logos which are registered worldwide.
