The company uses ground water and water from local water districts in Tulare County, which is in the San Joaquin Valley. As of October 31, 2013, the company had five active real estate development projects in California. These projects include multi-family housing and single-family homes. Segments The company has three business segments: Agribusiness, Rental Operations, and Real Estate Development. AGRIBUSINESS This segment includes the company’s farming and lemon packing and sales operations. Farming The company is a citrus grower in California. It is also a major grower of lemons and avocados in the United States. In addition to growing lemons and avocados, the company grows oranges and various specialty citrus and other crops. Lemons: The company markets and sells lemons directly to food service, wholesale and retail customers throughout the United States, Canada, Asia, Australia, and certain other international markets. It grows lemon in the United States with approximately 3,900 acres of lemons planted throughout Ventura County, California; Tulare County in the San Joaquin Valley in Central California; and in Yuma County, Arizona. Avocados: The company grows avocados in the United States with approximately 1,200 acres of avocados planted throughout Ventura County. It provides all of its avocado production to Calavo Growers, Inc. (Calavo), a packing and marketing company. Calavo’s customers include various retail and food service companies in the United States and Canada. The company’s avocados are packed by Calavo and sold and distributed under its own brands to its customers primarily in the United States and Canada. Oranges: The company also grows oranges. It has approximately 1,500 acres of oranges planted throughout Tulare County in the San Joaquin Valley in Central California. The company utilizes Sunkist Growers, Inc. to market and sell a portion of its oranges under the Sunkist brand to food service wholesale and retail customers. Specialty Citrus and Other Crops: The company has approximately 800 acres of specialty citrus and other crops planted, such as Satsuma mandarin oranges, Moro blood oranges, Cara Cara oranges, Minneola tangelos, Star Ruby grapefruit, pummelos, pistachios, cherries, peaches, plums, and olives. The company grows Satsumas, a type of mandarin orange similar to Clementine mandarin oranges. It markets its other specialty crops, such as pistachios, cherries, peaches, plums, and olives independently. All of its pistachios are harvested and sold to an independent roaster, packager and marketer of nuts. The company’s cherries, peaches, plums and olives are harvested and sold to third-party packers and shippers. It has agricultural plantings on properties located throughout Ventura and Tulare counties in California and in Yuma, Arizona. Lemon Packing and Sales The company packs and sells lemons grown by the company, as well as lemons grown by others. Lemons delivered to its packinghouse in Santa Paula, California are graded, sized, packed, and cooled and ripened for delivery to customers. RENTAL OPERATIONS This segment includes the company’s residential and commercial rentals, leased land operations, and organic recycling.
