August 2013, Mobile TeleSystems OJSC announced the commercial launch of its LTE FDD (frequency division duplexing) network in Tambov and the Tambov region. In December 2013, MTS has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the government of the Stavropol region. They would cooperate on developing the telecommunications infrastructure in the region. Competition The company’s primary mobile competitors in Russia include MegaFon and Vimpelcom. It also competes with Tele2, as well as Rostelecom and its subsidiaries, such as CenterTelecom, SibirTelecom, Dalsvyaz, Uralsvyazinform, Volga Telecom, North-West Telecom, Southern Telecommunications Company, and Dagsvyazinform. In Ukraine, the company competes primarily with Kyivstar. Its CDMA business in Ukraine faces competition from other operators, including Intertelecom (including CDMA Ukraine), People.net, and Utel. In Armenia, the company competes with VivaCell-MTS, ArmenTel (Vimpelcom), and Orange (France Telecom). History Mobile TeleSystems OJSC was founded in 1993.
