The company conducts its business primarily through its wholly owned subsidiary, MoneyGram Payment Systems, Inc., under the MoneyGram brand. The company’s products include global money transfers, bill payment services, money order services, and official check processing. Its primary consumers are persons who might not be fully served by other financial institutions, which it refers to as unbanked or underbanked consumers. Unbanked consumers do not have a relationship with a traditional financial institution. Underbanked consumers are not fully served by traditional financial institutions. Segments The company manages its business primarily through two segments, Global Funds Transfer and Financial Paper Products. Global Funds Transfer This segment provides global money transfer services and bill payment services primarily to unbanked and underbanked consumers. The company utilizes various proprietary point-of-sale platforms, including AgentConnect, which is integrated into an agent’s point-of-sale system, DeltaWorks and Delta T3, which are separate software and stand-alone device platforms, and MoneyGram Online. Global Money Transfers: The company derives its money transfer revenues primarily from consumer transaction fees and the management of currency exchange spreads on money transfer transactions involving different ‘send’ and ‘receive’ currencies. The company offers various services to improve the consumers' experience at its agent locations. Through its FormFree service, consumers are directed to one of its customer care centers and a representative collects transaction information through the telephone, entering it directly into its central data processing system. The company’s MoneyGram xpress product enables consumers to pay for money transfers at a MoneyGram agent location, and provides the information necessary to complete the money transfer when and where it is convenient for them, through phone or any Internet-enabled device. The company offers its money transfer services on the Internet through its MoneyGram Online service in the U.S., the United Kingdom, Germany, and through affiliate Websites. In approximately 10 countries, it offers its money transfer services through virtual agents allowing its consumers to send international transfers from their mobile phone. The company continues to expand its money transfer services to consumers through the addition of full service and staging kiosks, ATMs, prepaid cards, and direct-to-bank account products in various markets worldwide. The company’s agent locations have approximately 336,000 locations in approximately 200 countries and territories. Its agents include major networks, such as international post offices, financial institutions, and retailers, as well as various agents specializing in specific corridors. Additionally, it has company-owned retail locations in the U.S. and Western Europe. Some of its agents outside the U.S. manage sub-agents. The company refers to these agents as super-agents. Bill Payment Services: The company derives its bill payment revenues primarily from transaction fees charged to consumers for each transaction completed. Its primary bill payment service offered is its ExpressPayment service, which the company offers at all of its money transfer agent and company-owned locations in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, as well as at certain agent locations in select Caribbean countries. Through the company’s bill payment services, consumers could complete urgent bill payments, pay routine bills, or load and reload prepaid debit cards in cash at an agent location or through MoneyGram Online with a credit or debit card. It offers consumers same-day and two or three day payment service options; the service option is dependent upon its agreement with the biller. The company offers approximately 13,000 payment options to billers in major industries, including the ability to allow the consumer to load or reload funds to approximately 300 prepaid debit card programs.
