The company operates in Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, Albania, Cyprus, and Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). The company offers its customers a range of integrated financial services, including corporate and investment banking; retail banking (including mortgage lending); leasing and factoring; stock brokerage, asset management, and venture capital; insurance; and real estate and consulting services. It is also involved in various other businesses, including hotel and property management. The company is supported by eight non-Greek banking subsidiaries, such as Finansbank A.S. (Finansbank); United Bulgarian Bank AD—Sofia (UBB); Vojvodjanska Banka A.D. Novi Sad (Vojvodjanska); Banca Romaneasca S.A. (Banca Romaneasca); Stopanska Banka A.D.—Skopje (Stopanska Banka); the National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) Ltd. (NBG Cyprus); NBG Albania; South African Bank of Athens Ltd. (SABA); and NBG Bank (Malta) Ltd. (NBG Malta). Banking Activities in Greece Majority of the company’s banking business is domestic and includes retail, corporate, and investment banking. Banking activities in Greece include the company’s domestic operations, such as Ethniki Leasing S.A. (Ethniki Leasing) and Ethniki Factors S.A. (Ethniki Factors). As of December 31, 2013, the company operated in Greece through 540 branches, 1 private banking unit, 1 financial institutions unit, and 7 specialized banking units that deal with troubled and non-performing loans. It had 1,398 ATMs, of which approximately 578 were situated in key locations, such as supermarkets, metro stations, shopping centers, hospitals, and airports (57% of its ATMs are equipped with cash deposit devices). In addition, the company has developed alternative distribution channels, such as an e-banking platform targeted at both corporate and retail clients. It operates a contact center, through which the company provides information and transaction services through the use of a voice portal and a manned help desk. The company offers one new ‘i-bank’ store. It operates four ‘i-bank’ stores (two in Athens and two in Thessaloniki), which offer all i-bank services (Internet, mobile and phone banking, ATM, and APS) and where the company also hosts entertainment and educational events. As of December 31, 2013, the ‘i-bank’ stores have received approximately 410 thousand visitors. The company’s branches are located in almost every major city and town in Greece. As of December 31, 2013, the company operated 264 full banking branches and 276 retail banking branches. The company participates in DIAS Interbanking Systems S.A., which has 30 banks as shareholders and direct members, including the company. DIAS Interbanking Systems S.A. provides interbank services, such as check clearing, ATM networking, fund transfers, and payroll and pension services for the benefit of the customers of its members. The company provides certain banking services through the Internet, including the transfer of funds between accounts, balance inquiries, bill payments, stock brokerage services, and subscriptions to initial public offerings on the Athens Exchange (ATHEX).It also offers ‘i-bank’, a Web-based portal, which allows its clients to select the ideal place and method to transact with the company to achieve immediate service. Savings and Investment Products: Savings and investment products of the company are offered both in euro and in other currencies. In addition to other products, the company offers investment products with yields that are higher than its basic deposit products, including capital-guaranteed principal products, Greek government bonds and other bonds from the company’s proprietary portfolio, repurchase agreements between the company and its clients, and a range of mutual funds and unit trust products provided by NBG Asset Management Mutual Funds S.A.
