Equity Investments Foxtel The company and Telstra Corporation Limited, a telecommunications company, each own 50% of Foxtel, the major pay-TV provider in Australia. Foxtel has approximately 2.4 million subscribing households throughout Australia as of June 30, 2013 through cable, satellite and IPTV distribution. Foxtel delivers approximately 200 channels (including standard definition channels, high definition versions of some of those channels, and audio and interactive channels) covering news, sport, general entertainment, movies, documentaries, music and children’s programming. Foxtel’s premium content includes FOX SPORTS Australia’s suite of sports channels, such as FOX SPORTS 1, FOX SPORTS 2 and FOX SPORTS 3 and TV shows from HBO, FOX and Universal. Foxtel also owns and operates 26 channels, including general entertainment and movie channels, and sources a range of movie programming through arrangements with major U.S. studios. Foxtel’s channels are distributed to subscribers through both Telstra Corporation Limited’s hybrid fibrecoaxial cable network and a long-term contracted satellite platform provided by Optus. Foxtel offers limited versions of its services through broadband through Foxtel Play (an Internet television service), the Xbox platform, Telstra Corporation Limited’s T-Box platform, select Samsung televisions, various Virgin Australia aircraft, and mobile devices and tablets (including iPads and iPhones through Foxtel Go), as well as through the Internet to personal computers. Foxtel customers are also able to access their electronic programming guide through their tablet, mobile devices and personal computers to remotely record programming. Foxtel provides a 200-plus channel selection with content and a range of digital and mobile features that are not available to viewers on the FTA networks. Dispositions In September 2013, the company sold the Dow Jones Local Media Group, which operated 8 daily and 15 weekly newspapers in 7 states, to an affiliate of Fortress Investment Group.
