Pacific Drilling S.A., an international offshore drilling company, provides ultra-deepwater drilling services to the oil and natural gas industry. The company contracts its ultra-deepwater drilling rigs, related equipment, and work crews, primarily on a dayrate basis, to drill wells for its customers. The company operates four drillships and has four drillships under construction, two of which are under customer contract. Its four completed drillships are operating in the deepwater regions of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, and West Africa. Business Strategy The company's business strategy is to establish position as the preferred ultra-deepwater drilling contractor with newly built high-specification units; capitalize on increased exploration and development activity in select deepwater basins; and develop strategic relationships with high-quality customers. Customers The company’s target customers include state-owned national oil and gas companies, major integrated oil and gas companies, and large independent exploration and production companies. The company's customers include Chevron Corporation, Total S.A., and Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. Environmental and Other Regulatory Issues United States: Applicable laws in the United States with which the company must comply include the federal the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (commonly referred to as the Clean Water Act,) and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships as each has been amended from time to time. Nigeria: The company, as an independent drilling contractor, is subject to Petroleum (Drilling and Production) Amendment Regulations 1988, which requires the company to be accredited with the Department of Petroleum Resources. Its operations are also subject to the provisions of the Environmental Guidelines and Standards for the Petroleum Industry of Nigeria, which establish a uniform monitoring and control program in relation to discharges arising from oil exploration and development in Nigeria. Brazil: Brazilian oil and gas business is subject to regulations by several governmental agencies, including the National Agency for Oil and Gas, the Brazilian Navy, and the Brazilian Authority for Environmental Affairs and Renewable Resources. History Pacific Drilling S.A. was founded in 2006.
