Segments The company operates in three segments: Wholesale, Retail, and Licensing. WHOLESALE The Wholesale segment sells the company’s products to upscale and certain mid-tier department stores, specialty stores, and golf and pro shops located throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. As of March 30, 2013, its Ralph Lauren-branded products were sold through approximately 11,000 doors worldwide. The company’s products are also sold through the e-commerce sites of certain of its wholesale customers. The primary product offerings sold through the company’s wholesale channels of distribution include menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, accessories, and home furnishings. The company’s collection brands — Women’s Ralph Lauren Collection and Black Label and Men’s Purple Label and Black Label — are distributed worldwide through fashion retailers. Department stores are its major wholesale customers in North America. In Latin America, its wholesale products are sold in department stores and specialty stores. In Europe, the company’s wholesale sales are a varying mix of sales to both department stores and specialty stores, depending on the country. It also distributes product to certain licensed stores operated by franchisees in Europe and Asia. In addition, its Club Monaco products are distributed through select department stores and specialty stores in Europe. In Japan, its wholesale products are distributed primarily through shop-within-shops at premier and top-tier department stores, and the mix of business is weighted to Women’s and Men's Blue Label. In the Greater China and Southeast Asia region, its wholesale products are sold at mid and top-tier department stores in China, Thailand, and the Philippines, and the mix of business is primarily weighted to Men’s and Women’s Blue Label. The company sells the majority of its excess and out-of-season products through secondary distribution channels worldwide, including its retail factory stores. Worldwide Distribution Channels The company's products are sold primarily through its own sales forces. The Wholesale segment maintains its primary showrooms in New York City. In addition, the company maintains regional showrooms in Boston, Milan, Paris, London, Munich, Madrid, and Stockholm. Shop-within-Shops: As of March 30, 2013, the company had approximately 20,000 shop-within-shops dedicated to its Ralph Lauren-branded wholesale products worldwide. Basic Stock Replenishment Program: Basic products, such as knit shirts, chino pants, oxford cloth shirts, selected accessories, and Home products can be ordered by its wholesale customers at any time through its basic stock replenishment programs. Customers The company's major customer is Macy’s, Inc. RETAIL The Retail segment consists of sales made directly to consumers through its retail stores located throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America; through concession-based shop-within-shops located primarily in Asia and Europe; and through its retail e-commerce channel in North America, Europe, and Asia. As of March 30, 2013, the Retail segment consisted of 388 directly-operated freestanding stores worldwide, totaling approximately 3 million square feet, 494 concession-based shop-within-shops, and 7 e-commerce Websites. Ralph Lauren Stores: The company's retail stores are primarily situated in major upscale street locations and upscale regional malls, in large urban markets. Ralph Lauren stores feature a range of Ralph Lauren apparel, accessories, and Home product assortments. The company’s Ralph Lauren stores range in size from approximately 700 to 38,000 square feet. Club Monaco Stores: The company’s Club Monaco stores feature fashion apparel and accessories for both men and women.
