Actavis Pharma Segment This segment engages in the development, manufacturing, and sale of generic, branded generic and OTC pharmaceutical products. The company’s portfolio of generic products includes products it developed internally and products licensed from and distributed for third parties. Actavis Pharma Product Portfolio: The company’s U.S. portfolio of approximately 250 generic pharmaceutical product families includes various key products. Its products include Amethia; Atorvastatin; Bupropion hydrochloride ER; Clopidogrel; Dronabinol; Enoxaparin sodium; Fentanyl transdermal system; Glipizide ER; Hydrocodone bitartrate/acetaminophen; Levalbuteral inhaltion solution; Lutera; Methylphenidate ER; Metformin hydrochloride; Metoprolol succinate; Microgestin/Microgestin Fe; Morphine sulfate; Next Choice One Dose; Nicotine gum; Oxycodone hydrochloride/acetaminophen; Potassium; Progesterone; Testosterone Cypionate; Testosterone Enanthate; Trinessa; Vancomycin hydrochloride; and Zarah. In the U.S., the company predominantly markets its generic products to various drug wholesalers, mail order, government and national retail drug and food store chains utilizing a small team of sales and marketing professionals. It sells its generic prescription products primarily under the Watson Laboratories, Watson Pharma and Actavis Pharma labels, and its OTC generic products under private label. During 2012, on a combined business, the company expanded its generic product line with the launch of approximately 1,000 generic products globally. Key U.S. generic launches in 2012, included enoxaparin sodium injection, progesterone, USP (an authorized generic version of Prometrium), vancomycin hydrochloride, metformin hydrochloride extended –release, ibandronate sodium, Next Choice (a generic version of Plan B One-Step), trospium chloride extended –release, levalbuterol hydrochloride inhalation solution, diclofenac sodium and misoprostol delayed-release, irbesartan USP, and pioglitazone hydrochloride. Operations in Key International Markets: The company has operations in approximately 60 countries, with generic market share positions in approximately 33 markets, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, Nordics, and Russia. Actavis Pharma Research and Development: The Actavis Pharma segment incurred research and development expenses of approximately $255.6 million in 2012. The company is developing various generic products through a combination of internal and collaborative programs. The company’s research and development activities focuses on products using solid dosage form, oral controlled and sustained release, transdermal, gel, oral transmucosal technologies, liquids, semi-solids, and injectibles. Actavis Specialty Brands Segment This segment markets various branded products to physicians, hospitals, and other markets that it serves. The company classifies these patented and off-patent trademarked products as its brand pharmaceutical products. In April 2012, the company launched Gelnique 3% (oxybutynin), a clear, odorless topical gel that has been shown to be an effective and safe treatment for over active bladder in women. Gelnique 3% was obtained through an exclusive licensing agreement with Antares.
